Celebrating a Hall of Fame Moment

Mere Mortals have been part of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s original music scene for decades, earning a reputation for strong musicianship, clever songwriting, and an eclectic sound influenced by artists ranging from The Beatles to U2 and The Police.

The Pittston-area band’s history stretches back to at least the early 1990s, with releases including In Search of Simple Things and GRIN. Over the years, Mere Mortals have released three albums, were voted the area’s Best Original Band, and received a Billboard magazine Songwriters Achievement Award.

The individual musicians have also made their mark on the region’s music community. Vocalist Eddie Appnel received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Steamtown Music Awards and helped create an open-mic series that has showcased hundreds of local musicians. Drummer Marko Marcinko is the founder of the Scranton Jazz Festival.

In 2026, that decades-long commitment to original music was recognized when Mere Mortals were inducted into the Luzerne County Arts & Entertainment Hall of Fame, which described them as one of the area’s most acclaimed and respected bands of the past 40 years.

To celebrate the milestone, Mere Mortals offered their new album on TapTunes® Instant Music Cards, turning a new chapter in their musical history into something fans could physically take home.
